FY 2010 NASA EPSCoR Research Announcement

The Maine Space Grant Consortium, in partnership with the Maine Office of Innovation, is providing advance notice to the state’s institutions of higher education and research institutions of the FY 2010 NASA EPSCoR Research Announcement.  All institutions of higher education and research institutions in Maine are eligible to respond to this announcement. The schedule for in-state review of NASA EPSCoR proposals, NASA's Research Interests, and a copy of selected proposals from the 2009 NASA EPSCoR competition is available to download. (see links below).

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Office of Education, in cooperation with NASA’s four Mission Directorates—Aeronautics Research, Exploration Systems, Science, and Space Operations—and NASA’s ten Field Centers, are soliciting proposals for the NASA Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). Each funded NASA EPSCoR proposal is expected to establish research activities that will make significant contributions to the strategic research and technology development priorities of one or more of the Mission Directorates and contribute to the overall research infrastructure, science and technology capabilities, higher education, and economic development of Maine.

Awards of up to $750,000 for a three-year period of performance may be made under this Notice. Cost sharing/match is required at a rate of 50% and can include a combination of cash and in-kind.

Director's Fund

The Directors Fund is a multi-purpose fund that supports all priority areas (Research, Higher Education, Pre-college Education or Public Service).  The Fund responds to unanticipated events that meet all of the following criteria:

  • Cost is $500 or less
  • Immediate attention is required
  • A critical opportunity would be lost if not funded
  • Non-consortium funding is not available or is available but not sufficient
  • Timing prevents consideration by the Consortium through normal granting procedure
  • The activity constitutes a real opportunity to enhance the Consortium's mission.

Individuals interested in the Director's Fund should submit a letter outlining the purpose of the activity, how the request meets the Fund's criteria for support, and a brief budget. Letters should be e-mailed to Jana Hall.
